Founded in 1939, Xi'an Children’s Hospital is the largest specialized hospital for children in northwestern China and also the only comprehensive upper first-class hospital specializing in pediatrics in Xi'an, Shaanxi Province. It provides medical treatment, education and research. The hospital covers an area of 73,800 square meters and houses 1,500 beds.
The hospital boasts a complete range of disciplines. Its department of traditional Chinese medicine combined with western medicine is a key nurturing specialty approved by the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine during the 12th Five-Year Plan period and a key Chinese medicine specialty of Shaanxi Province. Its departments of pediatrics, neonatology, intensive care medicine, cardiology, gastroenterology and urologic surgery are rated as key disciplines at the municipality level and predominant specialties of Shaanxi Province. Also established in this hospital are Shaanxi Research Institute for Pediatric Diseases, Shaanxi Pediatrician Training Base, Shaanxi Children’s Asthma Control and Prevention Center, and Xi'an Disabled Children Rehabilitation Center.
The Hospital introduced and updated a large number of large- and medium-sized equipment such as 3.0T and 1.5T nuclear magnetic resonance machines, 64-row spiral CT machines, interventional treatment systems of digital subtraction angiography, extracorporeal circulation machines, digital radiography (DR) systems, digital gastrointestinal imaging machines, four-dimensional high-end Doppler ultrasound diagnostic apparatuses, electronic gastroenterological endoscopes, bronchoscopes, laparoscopes, urodynamics analyzers, hemodiafiltration machines, continuous blood purification apparatuses, flow cytometry machines, tandem mass spectrometers, mobile C-arms, dermatology laser therapeutic instruments, retina diagnostic apparatuses for the premature, and high-end multifunctional anesthesia workstations, striving to build itself into a first-class children’s hospital in China.
